SINTEF Ocean, strategically based in Trondheim, Norway, focuses on advancing sustainable practices and technological innovations related to ocean space, particularly in areas such as aquaculture, marine resources and environmental technologies.

In the Up4Food project, SINTEF Ocean leverages its expertise to contribute to the sustainable upcycling of marine byproducts, specifically from pelagic fish, into high-value ingredients. This work aligns with the project’s overarching goal of enhancing food resources utilization and promoting the development of sustainable food products.

Ingredient Technology Group at SINTEF Ocean

The Ingredient Technology Group at SINTEF Ocean plays a pivotal role in Up4Food, as the group is dedicated to the development of innovative technologies for extracting and refining bioactive compounds from marine biomass. The work encompasses transforming underutilized marine resources into valuable ingredients for food, feed and other applications, thereby contributing to the circular economy-

The key activities in the project will include:

• Advanced extraction techniques: using state-of-the-art technologies to secure optimized yield and high quality if the ingredients.
• Sustainable product development: collaboration with project partners will facilitate the integration of marine-derived ingredients into possible new food products/ food concepts.
• Environmental sustainability:  The processes will be designed with a focus on reducing waste and minimizing the environmental impact, contributing to a sustainable food production.
